About Colin
As a parent, I am ultimately responsible for my children’s education. The best way I know to do that is to be their advocate.
Colin and Arminta, his wife of almost ten years, are the loving parents of four wonderful children – all under the age of five. The family lives on Main Street in south-east Galt and have been residents of Cambridge and the Region for many years.
As the oldest Carmichael daughter approached school-age, Colin was advised by many friends that the best way to help her was to get involved. Never one to do things half-way, Colin felt that he could be most effective as an advocate not only for his own children, but for his friends and neighbours’ children as well.
Born on the West Island of Montreal, Colin counts many educators in his family. His maternal grandparents, for example, were teachers and principals in such exotic places as Churchill, Manitoba and Blantyre, Malawi. The importance of public education was emphasized throughout his upbringing.
During post-secondary studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, Colin focused on local politics while completing his B.A. in Political Science. To this day he believes that the media and public focus on Ottawa and Queen’s Park is misplaced. Citizens should be paying more attention to their local representatives – including school board trustees.
